Lunesta For Chronic Insomnia
Lunesta was approved in December 2004, by FDA for the treatment of insomnia. Lunesta is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic agent. So called Hypnotic drugs are sleep medications. Lunesta can be used to treat various types of sleep problems from problems staying asleep, problems getting to sleep and problems with waking up before fully rested. The generic brand version is called eszopiclone was marketed by Sepracor Inc. with the brand name Estorra. It is now being distributed Lunesta. Note also that the drug may now be proscribed without the recommendation that its use be limited to less than two weeks. It is recommended not to drive or do other dangerous activities until it is felt to be fully awake.

Unlike all other available prescription sleep aids, which are generally indicated for short-term use, eszopiclone has been studied and approved for use when longer-term treatment is needed," remarked Andrew Krystal, M.D., who works at the Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC and is the Director of the Sleep Disorder Research Laboratory and Insomnia Program.
Possible side effects of Lunesta
The most common side effects of taking Lunesta include; morning drowsiness, dizziness, headache, cold symptoms, drowsiness the day after taking Lunesta and an unpleasant taste in the mouth. Possible serious side effects of taking this include sleep walking, unusual thoughts and actions, e.g. more aggressive or more outgoing than normal, agitation, hallucination or worsening depression, memory loss, increased anxiety or sever allergic reaction (encompassing swelling of the throat or tongue and nausea and vomiting).
